Depression in simple words can be described as feelings of sadness, anxiety, gloom and worthlessness. While, depression is a mental state, it has certain characteristic physical symptoms as well. The physical characteristics for major depressive disorder include body pains, lethargy, troubled thinking, lack of attention or focus and decreased overall energy and drive of the mind and body.
Major depressive disorder thus just like any other disease or illness requires proper medical treatment and attention. While, we all feel depressed and down in the dump at some phase of our life due to certain condition or circumstance in the life, major depressive disorder is different from circumstantial or short term depression, in the sense that it is a medical condition that is related to the brain chemistry of an individual.
